Senior Human Resources GeneralistThe City of Park Ridge, Illinois (population 37,480) is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Human Resources Generalist to join our dynamic team and contribute to our mission of excellence. Our team works tirelessly to ensure the well-being and growth of our residents, employees, and the municipality as a whole.

The organization has six departments: Administration, Finance, Community Preservation and Development, Fire, Police and Public Works. The City is staffed by 203 full time positions, 27 permanent part-time positions and 8 seasonal part-time positions and is party to five collective bargaining agreements.

As the Park Ridge Senior Human Resources Generalist, you will play a pivotal role in managing various HR functions to support the workforce. You will implement HR policies, procedures, and programs, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and provide strategic guidance to management and employees. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full spectrum of HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, compensation, benefits administration, and HRIS maintenance.
  • Develop, implement, and administer HR policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with organizational goals and legal requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to department managers and employees on HR-related matters, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans.
  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints or concerns and recommend appropriate actions to resolve issues effectively and fairly.
  • Offer support and coordination to the Board of Police and Fire Commission activities.
  • Manage the recruitment process, from job posting to offer acceptance, including sourcing candidates, conducting interviews, and collaborating with hiring managers to make informed hiring decisions.
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, and communication, and serve as a liaison between employees and benefit providers.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the HRIS system and ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Stay abreast of HR trends, best practices, and regulatory changes and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Support collective bargaining through research and analysis along with other related labor relations activities.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. Master's degree or HR certification (e.g., IPMA, SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred.
  • Three 3+ years of progressive experience in human resources, with a focus on benefits and compensation, talent management, and HR policy development.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
The expected starting salary is $101,000 +/- depending upon qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefit package includes participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), health insurance including medical, dental, prescription and vision, (also available to dependents), life insurance, medical and dependent care flexible spending accounts, optional 457 plan participation, paid holidays, paid vacation, and tuition reimbursement.
