Charges filed for June 3, 2015 Serious Motor Vehicle Crash

On July 15, 2015, charges were filed against the driver who is alleged to have caused a serious motor vehicle crash. On June 3, 2015 at approximately 10:52 p.m. William J. Kivit, 20 years of age from the 400 Block of south Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, Illinois, was involved in a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Devon Avenue. Mr. Kivit is alleged to have knowingly eluded the police and operated his motor vehicle at a high rate of speed, in excess of 79 mph, prior to the collision. Mr. Kivit disobeyed a red light causing a collision in the intersection with another vehicle. Two of the occupants inside the suspect’s vehicle were ejected causing severe injuries. The driver of the other vehicle also sustained severe injuries.

The Park Ridge Police Department Major Crash Unit, along with the STAR, multijurisdictional crash team, have been investigating the incident and after consulting with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Mr. Kivit was charged with the following:

Three (3) counts of Aggravated Reckless Driving- each count is a class 4 felony

One (1) count of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding- a class 4 felony

 

Mr. Kivit was taken to the Cook County Court, Second District on today’s date for a bond hearing.
