City begins zoned cycle pruning of parkway trees

January 29, 2018 09:27 AM

Beginning the week of January 29, 2018, the City’s tree maintenance contractor, Acres Group, a professional tree care company, will begin cycle pruning parkway trees (over 6” diameter) located in Zone C.  Residents will be notified via door-card several days before pruning begins on their street.  This project is expected to last through April.

The pruning of trees is the most important of all tree maintenance practices.  Proper pruning improves overall tree health, reduces incidents of storm damage and removes limbs that may be hazardous to people, homes and vehicles.

Parkway trees will be pruned according to City specifications which include the following:

  • Remove broken, dead and diseased limbs
  • Remove crossing, rubbing or interfering limbs
  • Promote a single stemmed leader, when appropriate
  • Remove sucker and sprout growth, when appropriate
  • Raise over street and sidewalk and cut back limbs from structures
  • Permit sunlight and air circulation through the canopy

Please call the Forestry Division at (847) 318-5231 with any questions regarding this project or visit the Frequently Asked Questions page with general forestry questions (link).
