Cold Weather Preparation

December 27, 2017 09:29 AM

With the forecasted extreme low temperatures this week, the City of Park Ridge wants to make sure all residents are prepared for this winter weather. With the current temperature in the single digits this week, with wind chills well below zero, please avoid all unnecessary travel and try to limit your exposure outside when possible. Any exposed skin can become frostbitten in just minutes, so make sure to wear multiple layers if you do have to go outside.

In the event of an emergency, if you do not have power and/or heat in your house, and you have nowhere to go to stay warm, you may utilize the Park Ridge Public Library located at 20 S. Prospect during its normal business hours, which are 9:00 AM- 9:00 PM on Monday through Thursday, 9:00- AM- 6:00 PM on Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM on Saturday, and 12:00 PM-5:00 PM on Sunday. You may also go to the Maine Township Town Hall at 1700 Ballard Rd on Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM.  If you require assistance at other times, you may go to the Park Ridge Police Department on 200 S. Vine, which is open 24 hours a day, every day, and let them know you have no heat in your home.

This is also a good time to make sure you have an updated emergency kit in your home that has enough supplies to take care of you and your loved ones for at least three days. You can find more information on this emergency kit at Additionally, you should make sure you have an emergency plan in place so that you know who you can call and where you can go in the event that you need to leave your home.
