Des Plaines Emergency Communication Center dispatched the Park Ridge Fire Department to a report of a fire in the basement of a home
On Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 4:12 a.m., the Des Plaines Emergency Communication Center dispatched the Park Ridge Fire Department to a report of a fire in the basement of a home in the 600 block of South Delphia Avenue. The Fire Department was on the scene in less than five minutes. Upon arrival of the companies, there was no fire or smoke showing from the street, and the residents had exited safely and were in front of the home. Further size-up indicated light smoke on the first floor coming from the basement. Crews entered and proceed to the basement where they attacked and quickly extinguished the fire. Simultaneously, additional companies were directed to ventilate the first and second floors of the house by opening windows. The fire appeared to have originated in the area adjacent to the furnace, so that appliance was shut down. There was fire and smoke damage to personal items in the basement, but the loss was stopped there and the structure was saved. The fire loss is estimated to be less than $5,000.
Park Ridge Fire Investigators are continuing their investigation of the cause of the fire. No residents or fire personnel were injured as a result of this fire.
