The Park Ridge Fire Department Honor Guard has been established to represent our fallen brothers and sisters who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It is our intention to assist all firefighters and their families during their time of need. The Honor Guard will promote honor, professionalism, and integrity through its conduct and image at all times holding the department’s core values to the highest degree.
The Park Ridge Honor Guard was established in 2008. To date, the Park Ridge Fire Department Honor Guard currently consists of five active guardsmen.
FF David Malcomson – Commander
FF Chris Cleary
FF John Piltaver
FF Tim Schneider
FF Bill Smaha
While our primary function is the line of duty death activation, the Honor Guard also participates in non-line of duty death funerals and memorial services for our brothers and sisters. The Honor Guard also participates in local parades and ceremonies, such as September 11th.
Both the Fire Department and the Park Ridge Firefighter’s union IAFF Local #2697 work together to support the Honor Guard. Because of this unique cooperation, the Honor Guard is able to perform many of its functions.
The Associated Firefighters of Illinois (AFFI) established the first state-wide Honor Guard in January of 1993, with just 69 members. Since then, the AFFI Honor Guard has grown to over 500 members and is the largest non-military Honor Guard in the country. We are proud to say that the Park Ridge Honor Guard is aligned with the AFFI and follows the standards of this great organization.
