City Facilities

 

City Hall

City Hall is located at 505 Butler Place, near the center of town, just south of the Prospect Avenue railroad crossing, and behind Hodges Park. City Hall is the hub of governmental activities and contains the offices of the Mayor, City Manager, City Attorney, Directors of the Department of Preservation and Development, the Finance Department, the Public Works Department, the Chief of Police and the Police Department. The City Council Chambers are also located in City Hall. City Hall is open for business from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Police Station

The Police Department is located in the lower level of City Hall at 200 South Vine Avenue. It is open 24 hours a day.

Fire Stations

The community has two modern fire stations, Fire Station #35 (South) at 901 West Devon at Cumberland and Fire Station #36 (North) at 1000 North Greenwood at Oakton. The Fire Department Administration Building is located adjacent to Fire Station #35.

Public Works Service Center

Located at 400 Busse Hwy, this is the location of all Public Works maintenance facilities. It contains an office and maintenance building and vehicular service building.

Public Library

Located at 20 South Prospect at Touhy, the public library is housed in a 37,000 square foot structure located in the Uptown business district. The library has a collection of 225,000 books.

Water Pumping Stations

The Department of Public Works maintains two such facilities for the distribution of public water. The new Central Pumping Station is located at Busse and Elm Streets in Hinkley Park. The South Park Pumping Station is located at Talcott and Fairview. Underground reservoirs are located at both sites. Water is purchased from the City of Chicago.

A new water supply and transmission main was completed in 2005.
