June 13, 2018 04:24 PM

Park Ridge Police arrested David Jilwaya, 44 years old of Des Plaines IL on Tuesday June 12, 2018 while investigating a disturbance in the Landings Shopping Center Parking lot at 2606 E. Dempster St. in Park Ridge IL.

Park Ridge and Des Plaines Police responded to a disturbance call at approximately 8:30 am in the parking lot at 2606 E. Dempster St.  Upon police arrival Mr. Jilwaya fled from the scene in a gray SUV.  Officers on scene spoke to the victim and witnesses, who told police that Mr. Jilwaya, the owner of a towing service, had a dispute with the victim, one of his employees, a 21 year old male.  The dispute escalated from a verbal to a physical altercation.  When Mr. Jilwaya fell to the ground during the fight, he pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot at the victim as the victim ran from Mr. Jilwaya.  The bullet did not strike the victim, or any innocent bystanders.

While police were on scene conducting the investigation, Mr. Jilwaya returned and aggressively approached the victim, threatening to kill the victim and using racial slurs.  Mr. Jilwaya disregarded the orders given by officers on scene, and had to be forcibly taken into custody.  Police recovered a spent .380 caliber shell casing in the parking lot and a Glock .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun from Mr. Jilwaya’s vehicle.  Jilwaya was in possession of an Illinois concealed carry permit.

Mr. Jilwaya has been charged with one count of attempted first degree murder and will have a court date set, pending a bond hearing in the Second Municipal District of Cook County at 5600 Old Orchard Rd. Skokie, IL.  Contact Deputy Chief Duane Mellema at (847) 318-5276 or dmellema@parkridgepolice.org for further information.
