News You Can Use About Mosquitos
The City of Park Ridge has received many calls from residents inquiring about mosquito spraying. The Northwest Mosquito Abatement District (NWMAD) is a separate governmental body responsible specifically for mosquito abatement. NWMAD provides mosquito spraying for nine townships, including the Park Ridge area. Night spraying, when scheduled, will begin at sunset and conclude by midnight during favorable weather conditions. Residents with respiratory problems can sign up with NWMAD to receive spray warnings. The spraying schedule and many frequently asked questions can be viewed on the NWMAD’s website at http://www.nwmadil.com. Mosquito spraying is not performed by the City of Park Ridge.
Residents are strongly encouraged to check their property weekly for standing water. NWMAD requests that you contact their office at 847.537.2306 to report any new stagnant water areas that have retained water for seven or more days. Public Works Director Wayne Zingsheim recently indicated that sewer basins have been treated by NWMAD with larvicide which kills the mosquito larvae before they have a chance to develop into mosquitoes.
Residents are also encouraged to visit NWMAD’s website to learn more about identifying mosquito production sites around your home and how you can protect yourself. A link to the NWMAD website is also available on the City’s website at www.parkridge.us
