Park Ridge Police Charge Two Juveniles in School Threat

On July 10, 2017 at approximately 6:30 AM  Park Ridge Police received an anonymous tip regarding two juveniles, a 15 year old and 12 year old, who recently posted threatening messages on social media. The posts depicted the two juveniles holding a firearm and included references to them using that firearm, today, at Maine South High School during summer classes.

Park Ridge officers were able to quickly identify both juvenile suspects and brought them into the station for questioning prior to the start of school. Officers were also able to locate and take possession of three firearms from the home of the 12 year old. At least one of the firearms was confirmed as being used in the posting.

The investigation ultimately led to both juveniles being charged with one count of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of disorderly conduct. Both charges are felonies. After consulting with representatives from the Cook County Juvenile Detention Screening Unit, both juveniles will be transferred to the custody of the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center pending a custody hearing.

Detectives believe that these two suspects were the only individuals involved in the incident and are not investigating additional suspects.
