Park Ridge Police Department Offers Facility to be Used for Online Social Media Transactions

The Park Ridge Police Department is now offering our lobby as an “Online Exchange Zone.” The lobby is open 24/7 for individuals who are arranging a meeting to complete an online transaction though Craigslist, virtual garage sales or any type of lawful exchange which is facilitated by the Internet. “Our decision to offer this service fits into a broader trend which has been gaining traction over the past couple of years,” stated Chief Frank Kaminski.

Internet listings, such as Craigslist, are of course a quick and convenient way to buy, sell or barter. However, participants are often understandably hesitant when arranging the exchange and navigating the moment when money changes hands. There are those people who use these services for unscrupulous purposes. Buyers have concerns that the item they were seeking to acquire may be broken, stolen or fake. Sellers often worry that the currency they are to receive is counterfeit or that they are walking into a potentially dangerous situation with large sums of money. Because of these things, the Park Ridge Police Department is offering the security and convenience of our lobby as the “Online Exchange Zone” to make your transactions.

Please keep in mind that you cannot buy or sell weapons in our facility as part of this program. These items have always been prohibited in our facility by anyone other than a law enforcement officer. In addition, police staff are not authorized to use law enforcement resources (i.e. computer checks) to determine if an item is stolen.
