Park Ridge Police Make an Arrest in Armed Robbery

On Monday, September 14, 2015 at approximately 7:30 a.m. officers from the Park Ridge Police Department responded to an armed robbery call in the 100 block of south Northwest Highway. Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect was no longer on the scene and detectives began an investigation into the incident. Investigators developed information and arrested a suspect in the area of Sacramento and Touhy, Chicago, Illinois, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on September 14, 2015.

The investigation was joined by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office and charges were approved on September 15, 2015. The suspect, Juan Duran, 23 years of age, from 6250 N. Bell Avenue, Chicago, Illinois was charged with Aggravated Kidnapping and Armed Robbery with a Firearm, both class X felonies.

Mr. Duran is alleged to have entered the Chipotle restaurant in the 100 block of south Northwest Highway on September 14, 2015 at approximately 7:30 a.m. while having a firearm and wearing a mask to conceal his identity. He then struck a male employee in the back of the head with the firearm, causing great bodily harm, resulting in the need for medical attention and requiring two staples. Mr. Duran is also alleged to have then ordered the victim to open the safe and demanded that a female employee empty the contents of the safe. Taken from the safe was $4359.25 in U.S. currency. Mr. Duran then forced both victims, at gun point, to enter the walk-in cooler, locking them in to prevent their escape and taking their cellular phones so as to prevent them from notifying authorities.

Mr. Duran was taken to the Cook County Courthouse, Second District, on today’s date for a bond hearing.
