Park Ridge Welcomes Acting City Manager
The City of Park Ridge is pleased to welcome Shawn Hamilton as its new Acting City Manager as of August 1. Mr. Hamilton was most recently the Administrator for Grundy County where he directed day-to-day operations for the County, including union contract negotiations and primary responsibility for preparing the County budget.
In nominating Hamilton to the Park Ridge position, Mayor Dave Schmidt commented on Hamilton’s broad range of experience in the private sector before becoming the Grundy County Administrator, especially his 10 years in banking and finance, the last four of which were spent managing several branches of U.S. Bank in Illinois and Ohio. “Shawn’s wealth of experience in finance and management stood out to me as a valuable asset as we continue to address the financial issues facing our City,” said Mayor Schmidt. “I also felt that Shawn’s background in management consulting for government agencies and his 10-year term as an elected official on his local school board gives him a unique perspective in how to foster better communications between our city management and the elected officials, something that has been a recurring problem in the past.”
Hamilton’s employment will be governed by a letter agreement which provides that he will earn $140,000 on an annual basis through May 1, 2013. Hamilton declined to accept health insurance benefits and refused any suggestion of a housing allowance or the use of a city vehicle for personal purposes, stating that “it would be unfair to the taxpayers.”
