Police Charge Suspect for Filing a False Police Report in June 12th Shooting

On June 12, 2017 at approximately 8:45 AM Park Ridge Police officers responded to the 100 N. Block of Meacham for the report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found a 19 year old female victim with a gunshot wound to the left leg. She was accompanied by Carlos Ochoa, a 19 year old male from North Chicago. The victim was treated at the scene by Park Ridge Fire Department Paramedics and transported to an area hospital for further care.

Mr. Ochoa initially provided officers with information that indicated the two were victims of a robbery in Chicago and that her injuries were sustained during that robbery. Park Ridge investigators were able to determine that there was no robbery. In addition, investigators learned that the shooting was the result of an accidental discharge while the victim was handling the gun, inside the car, near a motel in Chicago. Mr. Ochoa drove to Park Ridge seeking medical attention for the victim.

Park Ridge investigators sought felony disorderly conduct charges against Mr. Ochoa for initially providing false information to police. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office approved one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct against Mr. Ochoa.
