Public Works offers tips for frigid weather

January 29, 2019 07:30 AM

The Public Works Department reminds residents who have had issues with frozen water service lines in the past, to open cabinet doors where there is plumbing and to trickle water in faucets as these may help prevent frozen lines.

Pipes that freeze most often include hose bibs, sprinkler lines, water supply pipes in unheated interior areas such as basements, crawl spaces, attics, garages, and kitchen cabinets, or pipes that run along exterior walls that have little or no insulation.

For more information on how to protect and prevent pipes from freezing and how to properly thaw frozen pipes, visit the American Red Cross website at https://www.redcross.org/get-help/how-to-prepare-for-emergencies/types-of-emergencies/winter-storm/frozen-pipes.html.
