SHOP LOCAL

Value of Shopping Local

   Keeps tax dollars local.
A 5% increase in sales tax revenue for the year can mean:

Over 52,000 square feet of new sidewalk, or

13 blocks of roadway resurfacing, or

                     12 police cars, or

                     Over 850 trees planted.

Encourages new businesses.
While a company that goes out of business may lead to a chain reaction that can negatively affect other businesses, business that are thriving are seen by other business as a reason to locate here.

Creates local jobs.
Small local businesses are the largest employers nationally. Plus the more jobs you have in your local community the less people are going to have to commute which means more time and less traffic and pollution.

Supports community groups.
Local merchants are a key supporter of non-profit groups.

Keeps money local.
A study in the Chicagoland region showed that for every $100 spent with local businesses up to $68 remains in the community’s economy through such things as paying employees' wages and benefits; on products and services from other local businesses; and on taxes.
