Structure Fire - 200 Block of North Merrill
On Saturday September 29, 2012 at approximately 3:57 p.m., the Park Ridge Fire Department responded to the report of a garage fire in the 200 block of North Merrill Street. In just under five minutes, the fire department was on the scene. Upon arrival of the Fire Department, there was a moderate amount of smoke emanating from a 2-car detached garage. Companies advanced a hose line down the driveway and made entry to the garage through a service door. Fire companies were then able to open the overhead door. The fire had extended up the side of the detached garage through the soffit and into the attic. The fire was quickly extinguished, saving the structure and an auto/SUV in the garage.
Firefighters from North Maine Fire Protections District and the Niles Fire Department assisted on the scene.
There were no injuries to the residents or fire personnel as a result of this fire.
Fire investigators have determined that the cause of the fire was the improper disposal of fire pit remnants, specifically ashes left in a combustible container near the structure.
