The Park Ridge Fire Department Responds to a Fire Involving an Attached Garage of a Single Family Residence
On Saturday March 9, 2013 at approximately 5:51a.m, the 9-1-1 Center (North Suburban Emergency Communications Center), received a report of a fire in a garage in the 1500 block of North Potter Road. The Park Ridge Fire Department was immediately dispatched along with Automatic Aid companies from the Des Plaines Fire Department and the North Maine Fire Protection District. Additional information from a passerby indicated that the residents of the home had been alerted to the fire, and that they were evacuating the structure. Park Ridge Fire Department companies arrived on scene in less than five minutes, and confirmed heavy smoke conditions from an attached garage in a single family, single story residential structure. The residents of the home had already evacuated the residence prior to our arrival.
Upon arrival, companies confirmed they had a working fire involving the attached garage of a single-family residence. At that time, there was heavy smoke coming from the garage as companies made their way towards accessing the structure. Companies began to ventilate the structure, breached the garage door, and began their fire attack. As suppression activities progressed, interior crews again searched the structure in order to verify that there were no additional occupants. Within approximately 20 minutes of arrival on scene, companies achieved fire control and began overhaul activities. Fire investigation activities commenced and an inspector from the Building Department verified the safety of the structure, prior to the home being turned over to the resident.
Park Ridge Fire Investigators are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire. The fire loss is estimated to be greater than $50,000. No residents or fire personnel were injured as a result of this fire.
