The Park Ridge Fire Department Responds to a House Fire
On Saturday, August 4, 2012 at approximately 5:12 p.m., the Park Ridge Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire in the 100 block of North Home Avenue. Several storm related calls prior to this call had already required the Fire Department to respond throughout the City of Park Ridge. In less than five minutes, the fire department was on the scene. The three occupants of the home had already evacuated the residence prior to our arrival.
Upon arrival, companies confirmed they had a fire inside a single-family residence. The fire was in the attic. The fire was then extinguished using a combination of an interior attack with hoselines from the second floor through a scuttle into the attic, and simultaneous ventilation of the roof via the tower ladder. All areas of the home were searched to verify no further fire spread. The fire was confirmed to be out at 6:19 p.m. There were no injuries to the occupants or to emergency responders.
Park Ridge Fire Investigators are continuing their investigation of the fire. There was some damage to the neighbors lot (yard) due to an apparent lightning strike. Damage estimates have not yet been determined.
Fire units from surrounding communities assisted on the scene and covering several emergency medical calls that also came in during this fire. In total, 16 fire departments assisted either at the scene, or covering the City of Park Ridge during this fire incident. The Des Plaines and Rosemont Fire Departments, and the North Maine Fire Protection District responded on the initial call along with Park Ridge companies. On the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) response, the following departments responded to the scene or change of quarters to cover the Park Ridge Fire stations for subsequent calls: Buffalo Grove, Glenview, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Mount Prospect, Niles, Northfield, Norwood Park, River Grove, Schiller Park, Skokie, Wheeling, and Winnetka.
