The Park Ridge Fire Department was dispatched for a fire in a detached garage behind a single-family residence

On Saturday, November 9, 2013, at approximately 6:49 p.m., the Park Ridge Fire Department was dispatched for a fire in a detached garage behind a single-family residence in the 1200 block of South Washington Avenue. The neighbor to the South of this address had noticed smoke and upon stepping outside saw the fire and called 9-1-1. Park Ridge Fire Department crews responded and arrived on scene within 5 minutes. Upon arrival, crews found a two-car garage to the rear of the residence with smoke showing. A hoseline was advanced up the driveway and fire attack was made through the service door to the garage and eventually the overhead door once it was opened. The fire was extinguished and crews performed extensive overhaul to ensure that there was no remaining fire. Assistance was provided to Park Ridge by crews from the Rosemont Fire Department and Norwood Park Fire Protection District on automatic aid. No injuries were reported. The family was able to return to their home. The damage is estimated to be $30,000. Park Ridge Fire Investigators are continuing their investigation into this fire at this time.
