2016 Top 10 Crash Intersections
The Park Ridge Police Department is committed to ensuring that our streets are safe. However, we cannot achieve this goal without an engaged and helpful community. Drivers often take for granted their responsibilities to follow the rules of the road. One of the most common complaints the Department receives concerns poor and/or inappropriate driving behaviour. Total accidents for 2016 rose slightly by 1% from 2015. We are grateful that there were no fatalities during 2016. Everyone needs to be a responsible and defensive driver.
Recently the Department participated in a state-wide Distracted Driver Campaign. Even though enforcement actions were taken during this campaign, distracted driving remains a major concern to police both locally and state-wide.
Each year the department compiles a list of those intersections that have the most crashes. For 2016, they are as follows:
1. Dempster and Potter 45 crashes
2. Dempster and Luther 34 crashes
3. Touhy and Greenwood 31 crashes
4. Busse and Oakton 26 crashes
5. Greenwood and Oakton 25 crashes
6. Dee and Touhy 25 crashes
7. Oakton and NW Hwy 24 crashes
8. Oakton and Dee 23 crashes
9. Devon and Cumberland 18 crashes
10. Greenwood and Busse 18 crashes
The Department publishes this list in order to increase the public’s awareness of these accidents. Hopefully, motorist will become more safety conscious when driving through these intersections.
The majority of these crashes are the result of driver error, with the common violations being: following too close, failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, improper lane usage, or failure to yield the right of way.
Please take the time to review this information and drive carefully at these intersections. Also, please drive defensively and help make Park Ridge a safe place to drive.
