2019 Crime Statistics Show a Continued Decline in Overall Crime for Park Ridge

The decline in overall crime for the City of Park Ridge continued in 2019. The overall crime rate for Park Ridge was lower this year, as compared to last, by 16.6%. The Index Crime Rate indicates the prevalence of crime occurring across a given population. It is generally defined as the total number of index crimes per 100,000 inhabitants. In 2019, the crime rate for Park Ridge decreased to 816.4 as compared to 979.2 in 2018. The crime rate in 2019 was 24.6% lower than in 2015 and 50.9% lower than in 2010.

  • The Robbery Index Crime Offense Rate remained the same in 2019 as it was in 2018; however, there was a 73.3% decrease in aggravated assaults and aggravated batteries in 2019 as compared to 2018 with only four offenses occurring in 2019.
  • The Burglary Index Crime Offense Rate decreased by 28.8% in 2019 from 2018. This is 51.3% lower than it was in 2015 and it remains the lowest it has been in five years.
  • The Theft Index Crime Offense Rate has decreased by 10.3% in 2019 from 2018 and has decreased by 22.3% since 2015.
  • The Motor Vehicle Theft Index Crime Offense Rate decrease by 17.6% in 2019 from 2018. It should be noted that 75% of the vehicles stolen in 2019 were reported to have been unlocked with the keys or a fob inside.
  • The Arson Index Crime Offense Rate was zero for 2019 and is the lowest it has been for the last five years.
  • The Criminal Homicide Index Crime Offense Rate increased in 2019 as the result of one homicide, which was cleared by arrest.
  • The Index Crime Offense Rate for Sexual Assaults decreased by 33.8% in 2019 from 2018.
  • Traffic Accidents have increased by less than 0.5% in 2019 as compared to 2018.
