City of Park Ridge and Coronavirus (COVID-19)

March 13, 2020 04:10 PM

Park Ridge, Illinois – As coronavirus – COVID-19 – continues to spread among communities throughout the country, the number of cases may begin to grow incrementally in our area. In an effort to protect both our residents and employees, the City has stayed in close contact with health officials and continues to monitor updates from the Centers for Disease Control, Illinois Department of Public Health and Cook County Department of Public Health. The City of Park Ridge takes seriously the advice of infectious disease experts.

In response to this evolving situation, the City is currently taking several proactive and precautionary steps to help prevent the spread of the virus in our community:

  • There will be no reduction or changes to critical emergency services, water distribution or refuse collection
  • City Hall customers are asked to suspend visiting City Hall and conduct all business either online (www.parkridge.us) or over the phone (847-318-5200). Individual staff members may also be contacted via e-mail.
  • Utilize the online tab of the City website to apply for building permits, business licenses to sign up for ongoing alerts and more. A portal for submitting digital building permit applications and uploading plans can be found at:  https://www.parkridge.us/community_preservation_and_development/default1.aspx. Additionally, there is a guide to using this digital portal.
  • Utilize either the drop box located in the rear parking lot of City Hall or pay bills online; such as water bills; vehicle stickers, pet licenses, parking tickets, red light violations and other invoices.
  • Utilize fax, e-mail, mail or the drop box to submit property transfer stamp applications; coordinate delivery of approved transfer stamps with stamp via telephone or e-mail.
  • All non-essential, non-safety related, in-person services are suspended. Examples of these services are: notary services, car-seat checks, presentations to community groups, facility tours, any other in-person service that can be reasonably provided by phone or e-mail.
  • Utility billing fines and shut offs have been temporarily suspended.
  • All non-essential public meetings have been postponed until further notice, please see City calendar.
  • Residents are encouraged to cancel inspections if someone in the home is sick.
  • Water Meter replacement appointments can be rescheduled (if desired) by calling Water Resources Inc. at (800) 835-3341 Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Seniors Citizens and other residents with special needs with questions should call the Police Department non-emergency line at 847-318-5252.
  • Residents should continue to call 911 in an emergency.

Symptoms of the coronavirus include mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. The Centers for Disease Control identifies certain people as higher risk as older adults, and people who have chronic medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes and lung disease. All questions regarding COVID-19 should be directed to the Illinois Department of Public Health’s hotline at 800.889.3931 or dph.sick@illinois.gov.

Additional information and potential changes will be posted at www.parkridge.us as the situation continues to evolve. Please call 847-318-5200 with questions.

The City appreciates the understanding of residents and businesses as we take every possible measure to ensure the overall safety of our employees and community.
