ComEd Offers Assistance Funds

The City has recently been notified that ComEd has once again dedicated $10 million in assistance funds for ComEd customers who face possible disconnection. With spring in the air and warmer temperatures on the way, ComEd has recently announced that they are ending its winter moratorium of service disconnections.

Last year, 32,000 customers took advantage of this program that might have otherwise faced disconnection. Customers who have received a service suspension notice can avoid a disconnection by paying the balance owed or by contacting ComEd and requesting to arrange a payment plan. In many cases, ComEd customers may be eligible for some of the assistance funds through its CARE programs: CHAMP (ComEd Helps Active Military Personnel), Residential Special Hardship Program and Non-Profit Assistant Programs.
The assistance funds are part of a five-year $50 million commitment and a result of the Smart Grid law enacted in 2011 to help ComEd customers who are struggling to pay their utility bill.  Please contact ComEd for additional information at 888-806-CARE (2273) or visit
