Illinois Policy Institute Recognizes Park Ridge for Transparency for 2nd Consecutive Year

For the 2nd year in a row, the City of Park Ridge has been recognized as a Sunshine Award winner by the Illinois Policy Institute. The Illinois Policy Institute conducts audits of local governments in Illinois grading them using their 10-Point Transparency Checklist. This week, it was announced that Park Ridge was one of only 72 taxing bodies in Illinois who met the qualifications to be recognized.  Park Ridge has the 14th highest score of all Illinois taxing bodies recognized by the Illinois Policy Institute.

In the fall of 2013, at the request of late Mayor Schmidt, City Manager Shawn Hamilton prioritized the City completing the requirements to qualify to receive this award.  The requirements for recognition are recommended from the Illinois Policy Institute’s 10-Point Transparency Checklist.  The first year Park Ridge was ever recognized with the Sunshine Award was March of 2014 with a score of 86%.  Hamilton, along with City staff, continued to improve on these results, and in 2015 qualified for the Sunshine Award with a score of 94.8%.  According to Hamilton, “Transparency of government is one of my highest priorities.  I am extremely proud that Park Ridge is once again a recipient of this award, and will continue to enhance our reporting capabilities to strive for a perfect score.”

Acting Mayor Maloney reiterated that “Increased transparency continues to be a goal of this City Council.  I applaud the efforts of City staff and am pleased that our efforts over the past few years are continuing to be recognized.  My expectation is that Park Ridge will continue to be a model for transparency, for the citizens of Park Ridge, and in Illinois.”
