City Remembers Former Clerk Betty Henneman

Betty Henneman passed away on March 9, 2023 at the age of 91.  Betty graduated from Mundelein College with a degree in Music and Elementary Education.  She went on to teach for the Chicago Public Schools before raising her family in Park Ridge with husband Dr. Raymond Henneman.  Betty was elected City Clerk in 1985.  She earned her Certified Municipal Clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks in 1990 and the Master Municipal Clerk designation in 2007.  Betty received the Ilion Crabel, Municipal Clerks of Illinois Clerk of the Year Award in October 2000 and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Quill Award in 2002.   In her 36 years of service to the City, Betty elevated the City’s record keeping, restoring ordinance and minute books, and establishing practices still used in the Clerk’s office today.

The Sister City Commission was established in 1992 by Mayor Wietecha. Betty established a relationship with Kinver, England and traveled there occasionally while serving on the commission for nearly 30 years.

Betty's service to the community goes well beyond her role as City Clerk.  She was a member of Park Ridge (Noon) Kiwanis, the 20th Century Club of Park Ridge and a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of Illinois Crossroads, to name a few.  Betty was active in the Mary Seat of Wisdom parish, serving as a member of the Endowment Council and Music Ministry.

The City of Park Ridge is forever grateful for her selfless service to the city and the community at large.
