Park Ridge Police and Niles Police Join to Conduct Roadside Safety Check

The most recent data from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) shows that a fatality involving a legally drunk person occurred every 1.2 days. A motor vehicle fatality involving a driver who had been drinking, averaged one death every 0.99 days. Tragically, a traffic fatality occurs every 9.4 hours in Illinois, and a serious traffic injury every 41.6 minutes.
The Park Ridge and Niles Police Departments will conduct a roadside safety checkpoint in the 7000 Block of Touhy Avenue from 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2013 until 2:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013. The objectives of the roadside safety check are designed to reduce traffic crashes and the liability associated with the violations of vehicular safety laws including the detection of impaired drivers. The goal is to enforce violations associated with impaired driving, as well as occupant restraint violations. Additional enforcement activities will focus on compliance with the Illinois driver license statutes, liability insurance compliance and other vehicle laws, including local ordinances.
This roadside safety checkpoint is being conducted through the support of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
