Park Ridge Police Arrest Juvenile for Auto Theft

On April 10, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., Park Ridge Police officers responded to the report of a stolen motor vehicle in the 2600 Block of Dempster Street. Officers learned that an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked 2001 Chevrolet while the keys were in the ignition and the engine was running. The suspect took the car and fled in an unknown direction.

On April 11, 2016 at approximately 8:26 a.m., Park Ridge Police officers responded to the area of 700 N. Greenwood Avenue for the report of a suspicious car parked in the driveway of a resident there. Responding officers learned that the unoccupied car was, in fact, the stolen vehicle from April 10, 2016. Further investigation revealed that witnesses observed a juvenile male in the area on April 10, 2016 at approximately 4:00 p.m.

Detectives conducted an investigation and based on recent arrests for auto theft, the investigation led to the arrest of a 14 year old juvenile male. He was taken into custody today at 9:44 a.m. He will be transferred to the Juvenile Detention Center and turned over to the custody of  Cook County’s  Juvenile Justice Division along with a petition for Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle and Criminal Damage to Property.

The juvenile arrested in this case currently has four outstanding petitions with the Cook County Juvenile Justice Division for prior offenses related to motor vehicle thefts.
