Park Ridge Police Arrest Suspect for Armed Robbery

On August 6, 2016 at 2:26 p.m., Park Ridge Police officers responded to 800 block of Devon Avenue for the report of a retail theft and aggravated assault. The suspect, Daniel J. Cushing, 52 yoa of 1020 S. Delphia, Park Ridge, is alleged to have entered a store at that location and to have walked out with merchandise without paying. Upon being confronted by a store employee, the suspect is alleged to have brandished a knife and threatened the employee before fleeing the scene.  Officers located the suspect in the area of 600 Devon Avenue and when approached, he is alleged to have charged an officer with the knife before fleeing on a bicycle. Officers were able to follow the suspect and ultimately confronted him, once again, in the area of 1300 S. Crescent. The suspect, with a knife in his hand, began advancing towards officers disregarding their orders to drop the knife at which time, he was taken into custody though the use of a conducted electrical device (CED), commonly known as a Taser. The suspect refused medical treatment and was transported to the Park Ridge Police Department for processing.

After consultation with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Mr. Cushing was charged with the following: one (1) count of Armed Robbery-a class X Felony; three (3) counts of Aggravated Assault- Class A Misdemeanor; one (1) count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon- Class A Misdemeanor; and one (1) count of Retail Theft- Class A Misdemeanor. He was taken for a bond hearing on August 9, 2016 and was given a $150,000 D bond.
