Park Ridge Police Collaborate to Arrest Burglary Suspects

Officers from the Park Ridge Police Department recently made, and assisted in,

the arrests of several burglary suspects. Detectives from the Park Ridge Police

Department have been working closely with other area departments in an effort to solve

burglaries which have occurred in our jurisdiction. On Thursday, February 7, 2013,

Mariusz Poplawski, 24, of Des Plaines, and Sebastian Dybala, 23, of Des Plaines, were

arrested after officers followed and witnessed them burglarize a condo building in the

8700 block  of W. Bryn Mawr Avenue.

Poplawski and Dybala were placed under surveillance after being identified as
potential, active burglars on the Northwest side of Chicago and in the Northwest suburbs.
Chief Frank Kaminski stated, “This collaborative effort is one of the ways we work with
other agencies when trying to solve crime in our community. Burglars do not pay attention
to city boundaries and these criminals often perpetrate their crimes across a widespread
Park Ridge Police patrol officers also recently made an arrest for burglary.
During the early morning hours of February 7, 2013, officers responded to the area of
Meacham and Elm for the report of suspicious people with flashlights, possibly looking
into parked cars. Upon arrival, officers were able to locate two subjects matching the
description given by the caller. An investigation revealed that at least one of the subjects
had burglarized several automobiles in the area. After conferring with a representative
from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, felony burglary to motor vehicle charges
were approved against Michelle Karabetsos, 19 of Chicago. According to Chief Kaminski,
"This is yet another excellent example of the public helping us to keep the community
safe. Had it not been for the individual that called, our officers may not have been in the
area in time to observe and interview the suspects. These types of incidents consistently
reinforce our policing philosophy, P.A.C.T. (Police and Community Together).”
