Park Ridge Police Continue to Make Burglary Arrests a Priority

On August 20, 2015  Park Ridge Police Investigators arrested Mathew Bernat, 33 years of age, of  the  3200 Block of West Arthington, Chicago, Illinois in connection with four commercial burglaries. The burglaries occurred between August 1 and August 16. During that time period, Bernat is alleged to have burglarized two restaurants, twice each, on separate occasions. Investigators developed physical evidence linking Bernat to the burglaries and worked with a neighboring jurisdiction in identifying him as a suspect. Bernat was charged with four (4) counts of burglary, each a class 2 felony.

In addition, on August 21, 2015 Park Ridge police officers responded to the report of a burglary in progress in the 1400 block of S. Vine Avenue. At approximately 11:30 p.m. a resident in that area observed a suspect, later determined to be Orlando Gonzalez, 66 years of age, of the 2700 Block of Roosevelt, Chicago, Illinois, attempting to enter one of his vehicles. The suspect fled and was pursued by the victim. The victim was joined in his pursuit by several neighbors. Ultimately, Gonzalez was taken into custody by a responding Park Ridge Police officer. Gonzalez has been charged with one (1) count of burglary, a class 2 felony, one (1) count of attempted burglary, a class 3 felony and two (2) counts of disorderly conduct, class C misdemeanors. Gonzalez has been previously arrested by the Park Ridge Police Department in 1996 for criminal trespass, in 1998 for trespass to residence, in 1999 for residential burglary, in 2005 for criminal trespass to vehicle and residential burglary and in 2011 for burglary.
