Park Ridge Police Seek Re-Accreditation

March 19, 2021 01:30 PM

The Park Ridge Police Department is seeking re-accreditation through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). As part of the re-accreditation process, a team from ILEAP will be at the Park Ridge Police Department on March 22nd and 23rd to examine all aspects of the police department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and support services. A total of 67 ILEAP standards must be met in order for the Park Ridge Police Department to become re-accredited.

As part of the on-site assessment, members of the community are invited to offer comments during a public information call-in session that is scheduled for Tuesday, March 23rd, between 10:30 A.M. – 11:30 A.M. Residents wishing to comment can call 224-985-3330.  Telephone comments are limited to 5 minutes and must address the department’s ability to meet ILEAP standards.  A copy of the standards is available on the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police website at https://www.ilchiefs.org/ileap-illinois-law-enforcement-accreditation-program-. Comments are also accepted by email at: tgadomski@parkridgepolice.org.

The assessment team is composed of public safety practitioners from agencies in Illinois. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals and visit offices and other locations where compliance can be witnessed.

The assessors assigned to Park Ridge and their biographies are:

  • Lt. Jeff Hamer – Macomb Police Department
  • Sergeant Craig Gomorczak – Westmont Police Department

Lt. Jeff Hamer is in his 19th year with the Macomb Police Department and has functioned in many roles within the department. Lt. Hamer was a field training officer and verbal judo instructor. As a sergeant, he supervised patrol activities and took on several technology projects ranging from in car computers and video to social media and web presence. As a Lieutenant, Hamer’s duties involve supervising a patrol shift, ILEAP Accreditation manager and tactical commander for a multi-agency Strategic Response Team (SRT).

Lt. Hamer has a BS in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration from Western Illinois University as well as a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Lewis University. Lt. Hamer is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.

Lt. Hamer is also the ILEAP Coordinator for the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police. In this role he coordinates the accreditation process for accredited agencies as well as departments preparing to become accredited.

Sergeant Craig Gomorczak has served with the Westmont Police Department since 2002. He was selected as the detective/school resource officer in 2006. He was awarded Public Safety Officer of the Year by the Westmont Chamber of Commerce for the numerous programs he created in his role as school resource officer. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2013 and served as a patrol sergeant until 2017, when he was assigned to his current position as the Administrative Sergeant. Sergeant Gomorczak’s main responsibilities include supervision of records, field training officers, coordinates and ensures compliance for department training, scheduling, policies and procedures.

Sergeant Gomorczak is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. He was instrumental in facilitating the accreditation process for the Westmont Police Department to ILEAP Tier II status after a twelve year period without accreditation. Sergeant Gomorczak is an Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Assessor, a member of the Illinois Association of Police and International Association of Police. He also is co-liaison to Illinois Special Olympics Torch Run and dedicates extra time to helping military veterans. Prior to becoming a police officer, he served four years in the United States Marine Corps.

Once the ILEAP Assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report back to the ILEAP Council for its review and action at the Council’s next scheduled meeting. They will then decide if the Park Ridge Police Department is to be granted re-accreditation status.
