Park Ridge Police to Host 12th National Night Out Event

On Tuesday, August 2, 2016, the Park Ridge Police Department will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the“33rd Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. This will be the department’s twelfth year participating. The Honorary Master of Ceremonies will be: Dr. Teri Collins, Maine Community Youth Assistance Foundation.

National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and is co- sponsored by the Park Ridge Police Department.  It will involve over 16,728 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world.  In all, over 38.3 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out against Crime.”

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and to send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin said, “This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity.  National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation.  On NNO, we invite neighborhoods nationwide to join us in Giving Crime & Drugs A Going Away Party.”

This event provides residents with an opportunity to meet police officers, talk with their neighbors, strengthen the community, learn about safety and fight crime. The Park Ridge Police have, again, organized a free, fun-filled evening complete with crime prevention informational booths, children’s games and activities including a petting zoo, dunk-a-cop, donut eating contest, train rides or attendees can just dance the night away with our DJ. In addition, you can  take a tour of the police department and enter our free raffle for a chance to win fun prizes. Let’s give crime a “going away” party together!

The Park Ridge Police Department will be sponsoring this event on Tuesday, August 2nd in Hodges Park (located in front of City Hall) from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Residents are asked to turn on their porch lights to support National Night Out from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
