Preparing for Extremely Cold Temperatures

February 4, 2021 03:00 PM

Our area is expected to see some extremely cold temperatures over the next week or longer. We urge all residents to remain safe and warm in their homes and only travel outside if it is absolutely necessary. Limit the number of times you open your external doors to keep as much heat in your home as you can. If you must travel outside, make sure to wear multiple layers of clothing and cover all exposed skin since frostbite can occur within minutes. If you are traveling in your personal vehicle, make sure to have extra clothing and multiple blankets in an easily accessible location and know that these extreme low temperatures can sometimes cause vehicle problems.

If you are unable to maintain a warm temperature in your home, and need emergency assistance please go to the lobby of the Park Ridge Police Department at 200 Vine Ave. They are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The Park Ridge Fire Department and Police Department will remain fully staffed over the duration of this extreme weather period and are able to respond to any emergency 24 hours a day. If you have any emergency during this cold weather, please call 911 and the appropriate first responders will arrive to your door within minutes.

Again, please only venture outside if it is absolutely necessary. We want all of our residents to remain safe and warm during this extended period of low temperatures.
