Lead Service Line Replacement

Lead Service Line Replacement

Lead Service Inventory Public Dashboard

The Illinois Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act went into effect January 1, 2022.

This new law requires the replacement of all lead service lines in the State of Illinois. This Act requires all communities to develop a water service material inventory and lead service line replacement plan. Inventory of the publicly-owned portion of the service (water main to the parkway shutoff valve or B-box) and private portion (B-box to the water meter located inside the house) are both required.

The material inventory must identify each water service, the material classification on both the public and private side, the number of suspected or known services, any completed replacements, and the inventory shall be updated annually as lead services are identified and/or replaced.

The City will be replacing all identified lead service lines, from the water main to the B-box in the parkway, during future water main replacement projects.  The City will notify the residents with lead services from the B-box to the meter of the need to replace their service.

Those residents will have two options:

  1.  Approve the City replacement of the resident portion of the lead service line as a part of the project and then reimburse the City for the cost at the completion of the project.
  2.  Sign an Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) waiver stating they do not want the service line replaced.
All lead services are required to be replaced in the City of Park Ridge by 2044.
