UPDATED 4/18 5:00pm - City-Wide Flooding Emergency

In response to the flooding that the City has sustained, Mayor David Schmidt will be issuing a State of Emergency Proclamation for the City of Park Ridge.  This Proclamation follows the Declaration of a State of Emergency late this afternoon by Governor Patrick Quinn.  Many residents have sustained flooding in homes and basements.  Water on City streets is receding.

The City continues to do everything possible to mitigate the flooding.  Public Works staff is continuing to monitor the Des Plaines River levels and will do so throughout the night.  If rising river levels dictate the need for a neighborhood evacuation, the City will immediately notify residents by DeltAlert message.  Public Works employees will be working around the clock conducting pumping operations along Riverside Drive.  As a result of pumping operations, Riverside Drive is closed from Sibley to Touhy.  Pumps are also operating in the Manor and Mayfield areas.  The Public Works Service Center is being staffed twenty-four hours a day during this emergency.  If you need information regarding flooding, please contact the Public Works Service Center at 847-318-5240.

If you are experiencing flooding in your basement, please do not go into the water.  Call 9-1-1 immediately if you see any sparks, flames, or smell natural gas.

The Police Department has completed an updated assessment of the City streets. Most areas of flooding have receded. However, the following areas continue to have significant flooding and do not show signs of immediate relief.

The following streets are currently impassable:

  • Riverside Drive between Sibley and Touhy
  • Dempster from I-294 to Greenwood
  • Mayfield Estates (North of Farrell and West of Potter)
  • The Manor (Fenton, Burton, DeCook)
  • Carol from Western to Greenwood

Flood debris removal will begin Monday, April 22 for a two week period.  Special pickups will be conducted on your Garbage Day each week.

The City will be providing updated information again at 10 am on Friday morning

For Non-Emergency information after 5pm, please call (847) 318-5252.  IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY, PLEASE CALL 9-1-1.

Authority of Fire Chief Michael A. Zywanski
